Coming soon on this page is a full digital version of Dr. Annie Yoffa's book about a 1928 walk from Warburton to Walhalla via McVeigh's Hotel and Yarra Falls. Dr. Yoffa was a medical doctor, Psychiatrist who trained in Australia, England and America. In her later life she lived as a hermit at Mt Martha and then finally in Melbourne's Dandenong Ranges where she was brutally murdered in 1959.

Dr. Annie Yoffa walked alone through the bush for 4 days and made many interesting observations along the way. It is now impossible to recreate her walk because the Upper Yarra Reservoir now covers part of where she walked along. Annie Yoffa went on to also write several more books.

The Real Thing

Annie Yoffa

"NO" I assured her "I haven't the least
notion where I am."
"Isn't it on your map ?" broke in the clear
eyed man in surprise.
"I have no map. I started out with one al-
right but it got stuck together, at the first hut,
and was useless."
"By Jove you have been going without a
map."
"It wasn't much use anyway the important
thing was to stick to the track. I have a com-
pass in my bag somewhere. I had one look at
it in the bush and threw it in again. The only
thing was to watch the track. Have I still
much to to go to reach mount Baw-Baw?"
A general rollicking laughter was
my only answer.
Finally the highly amused lad volunteered
the stunning information.
"Mount Baw-Baw is three miles from the
Whitelaw hut, where you spent last nigh."
"And where do I get from here if I follow
the path, and when do I get there?"
Again they could not answer me for laugh-
ing, nor could I help joining in. It certainly
was funny.
At last I got the information I was after.
"If you follow the path, you will get to
huge rocks, my boy will take you there. Eight
